Where can I learn more about Windows 11 for Education? Where can I find more information about Windows devices for education? My university uses them, which is where I received the Windows 10 Education product key to use to upgrade my Windows 10 Home laptop.
The support rep there was very helpful, having seen this before. Using a remote control app, he verified my problem, then downloaded an iso image of Windows 10 Education. Sure enough, there eventually was a screen where I could set "keep apps and data", which results in an in-place upgrade. It proceeded to install, download updates, etc, which took quite awhile, but it finished with my other apps and files still installed.
I had to manually restart the computer after it was "finished", as it didn't allow me to select some Start menu items, notably "Settings", but once I rebooted that worked. It then activated properly and registered that with my Microsoft account, which is an advisable practice for others. I still needed to do some Microsoft updates to bring the system current, but this problem is now solved.
Yes, OnTheHub needs to change their student offering, as just getting the product key alone does not good at all with OEM installed Windows 10 Home on a laptop apparently only with a full retail edition, according to the Microsoft support rep I spoke to earlier. Doing a clean install without having the new license key does not work, either. It takes both components, and as I discovered an in-place upgrade can indeed be done thus saving in my case weeks of prior work installing and configuring special apps.
